Hunter X Hunter

こんにちわみんなさん、おげんきですか。レーシュ オーウェンです。 Hunter X Hunter is an absolute blast of a TV show. This show and I go way back as this was technically the first anime I ever watched. Just a few short clips from the show were show to me by my older brother many years ago, and I remember thinking how it was such a cool and exciting show. I am currently in the process of rewatching the show for the second time and am loving every second. The show has an incredibly unique power system as well as some of the best balancing of lightheartedness with some seriously dark themes that I have come across. It is able to give a mature and heavy story the feel of a children's show, which is a feat I have absolutely no idea how they pulled off. I consider this show to be one of the must watches for anyone with a love of anime! I had several instances where I noticed specific improvement in my Japanese learning ability. I believe I have figured out the casual equivalent of -mashouka, which was a rather fun disco...

Vivy Fluorite Eye's song

こんにちわみんなさん、おげんきですか。レーシュ オーウェンです。 Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song has been on my too-watch list for some time and I have finally made my way around to watching it. I haven't made it all the way through the show but it has been a pleasant surprise. I was anticipating a rather motiveless plot and was wondering how the main character being an idol and essentially fighting to save the world could possible be reasonably reconciled. The show definitely exceeded my expectations, with surprisingly tactful combat and some genuinely hilarious dialogue. All that being said I don't particularly feel as though the show brings anything unique or groundbreaking to its audience. It is a good watch if you are trying to burn some time, but ultimately it isn't much more than just that, a time burner. I watched a great deal of the show without subtitles and was actually able to follow along rather well! I especially noticed a lot of -tai form verbs as well as -ndesu expressions. I have definitely ...

Eminence in Shadow

こんにちわみんなさん、おげんきですか。レーシュ オーウェンさんです。 The Eminence in Shadow is a currently airing isekai/comedy anime that has been a simple and fun watch for the past few months. The show is probably one of the best examples of an anime making light of anime tropes that I have come across since One Punch Man. In effect, the main character is overly dramatic, makes random comments on a whim that become major plot elements, and is quite simply ridiculously overpowered. There is also the added comedy of the main character wishing to appear as much like a side character as possible. While the show might not be the deepest or most philosophically engaging anime that I have watched, it is a great lighthearted show that does what it intends to do to the T.  I have seen various examples of how my Japanese study has improved my skill in understanding conversational Japanese, and most recently in understanding how objects are actually counted in shows. I have been using subtitles for this show as I am ...

Vinland Saga

こんにちわ みんなさん、おげんきですか。レーシュさん です。 Vinland Saga is another phenomenal anime. The second season is currently airing, and while the start of the season has been slower paced than the last season the quality is just as high. I am thoroughly looking forward to watching Thorfinn, the primary character, to get out of the mental fugue he is currently in. I am thoroughly looking forward to watching how this season unfolds. I tried watching the show without subtitles, however I quickly ran into some problems understanding much of the more niche vocabulary of the show. I decided to turn subtitles back on so I would be better able to follow the story. I am definitely getting closer and closer to effective comprehension. Overall rating: 八 / 十
